Within a few kilometers of both the walled city of Carcassonne and the delightful Canal du Midi, this vine-covered house is just perfect for a visit to the département of the Aude in the Languedoc-Roussillon of southern France.
In the 19th century Domaine des Castelles was a wine growing estate.
Today, this character house, set on two and a half acres of parkland and surrounded by vineyards and verdant countryside, will provide you with peace and tranquility in the warm southern sun. Your hostess, Madame Clayette, is filled with enthusiasm and warmth, and her guests find sharing her love of art, music and conversation in the park on warm summer evenings especially appealing. The house itself offers three spacious, immaculate guest rooms: a double, a triple or a suite, all en suite with showers, and furnished simply but comfortably with good beds. A grand breakfast is provided each morning including home-made jams, croissants, fresh-baked breads, fruit, and coffee and is served either in the breakfast room or on the adjoining garden terrace. Dinner is not available at Domaine des Castelles. Your hostess will direct you to a wide variety of excellent restaurants just 5 kilometers from the estate, or make reservations for you at restaurants in Carcassonne -- a ten-minute drive away. If you are interested in spending a week or longer in a more independent fashion, there is a fully-equipped gîte at one end of the house which will accommodate five or six people comfortably. Madame will also provide suggestions and directions for taking in the local attractions: the medieval city of Carcassonne, the alluring Canal du Midi, local vineyards, a nearby lake, Cathar castles and various abbeys in the region. |
