LOIRE VALLEY - Vineyards & Castle Accommodation - Chateau des Noyers between Angers and Saumur.
Classifed as a Monument Historique and situated on the banks of the Layon river, this beautiful château was surrounded, in the 17th century, by a large and well known vineyard.
During the French Revolution, Château des Noyers was not spared and was burned down by the Colonnes Infernales in March 1794.
Today it is reunited with 20 hectares of its former vineyard, which includes the main grape varieties of the Loire region: Chenin Blance, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon et Grolleau and is classified within two of Anjou's best known AOCs: Coteaux du Layon and Anjou Villages. Its Coteaux du Layon is particularly recognised and regularly wins awards.
