The Martinvast castle is composed of three sections dated from the 11th, 16th and 19th centuries.
The general, Comte Alexandre du Moncel, decided to restore this castle because it was destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War. Then it listed on a Historical Monument.
It is composed of meadows, woods, ponds, waterfalls and several buildings from a former big 19th century old farm-school. Opposite the former 11th, 16th and 19th century castle, the view extends to an Obelisk raised in the 18th century.
Magnificent tree-like rhododrendrons and gunneras grow in the «private garden» which contains a collection of exotic conifers as well as many kinds of floral shrubs. |
