Valsequillo is a town that lives on livestock and agriculture, however, it has a rich pre-Hispanic past linked to an Aboriginal religious cult, since it is one of the highest areas in the Faycanato de Telde, a municipality to which it was bound during the Old Regime and where there was an Almogarén (little temple) on top of the "sacred mountain" El Helechal.
