THE LOUNGE, RESTAURANT & POOL
• The lounge and restaurant are set up to be ‘on the beach’, using large barazas (traditional Arabic ‘sofas) colorfully cushioned in vibrant shades, comfortable oversized lounge beds and large rustic wood tables to create an ambient environment allowing the guest to relax, socialize and enjoy the beach views.
• The pool with its simple clean lines, rustic lounge bandas and use of contemporary black, white and colour, frames and enhances the stunning aquamarine, turquoise of the beautiful ocean, the infinity rolling right into it.
• Music is essential to the essence of the Upendo experience, an excellent selection of both ambient tunes as well as a wide collection of artists that compliment the environment around you. Upendo hosts DJ’s especially for their soulful Sunday brunches, which brings a wonderful element to the whole experience at Upendo.
THE MENU
• The focus on the food at Upendo is to keep it as fresh and natural as possible, using all the natural ingredients found in Zanzibar; fresh caught seafood, fruit and vegetables in season and the delicious spices, all used in classic Swahili, Indian and international favorite dishes with a classic Upendo twist.
• Upendo’s signature style is using traditional recipes ‘like your mamma’ and cooking it fresh to order on the premises, served with a clean, stylish presentation. Trish believes one eats first from the eye (it looks good), nose (it smells good) and then finally the mouth (it tastes good).
• Upendo’s Soulful Sunday Brunches have become an institution on the island and it’s definitely the place to be from 11 to 5pm every Sunday (although don’t be surprised if your still there at 11pm!).
