South Africa Vacation Rental Suite with Kitchen Unit Fly Fishing in Somerset East.
Our Guest House offers comfortable accommodation, delicious cuisine and a variety of activities in Somerset East, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
Old world charm meets modern comfort in this 4-Star guesthouse; but it's not just the comfort of air-con, goose down and under-floor heating. This is a place where you can relax and be yourself.
You just can't go through the Karoo without experiencing the passion (or is it obsession?) of Alan and his fly fishing, or the delicious home cooked meals, complimented by a selection of over 50 Malt Whiskies.
This self catering suite comes with a separate entrance, lounge/kitchen area, bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The kitchen has a small oven, 2-plate stove, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle and all the other necessary items for making your own meals.
The bedroom has a queen sized and single bed, with an additional single bed in the lounge for an extra adult or child, and electric blankets in winter. The en-suite bathroom is equipped with shower only. With enough space for four guests, this unit offers perfect accommodation for a young family!
Please note that we supply goose down duvets and pillows. Should you be allergic, please advise us ahead of time in order to substitute with hollow fibre.
The guesthouse offers the unique experience of enjoying wholesome country cooking, served in a 100 year old church. The old Roman Catholic church - St Francis - was built in 1906, and celebrated its centenary by being christened as lounge, dining room, pub and kitchen. The kitchen was later moved out of the church in order to create more meeting space.
Meals are served daily at 7 pm, except on Fridays. Dinner orders must be placed before 5:30pm. provided on the website as well
Breakfast is also served in the church building, between 7 am and 9 am from Monday to Saturday and between 8 am and 9 am on Sundays.
Fresh trout is one of our specialities. Please note however, if you would like freshly caught trout for dinner we would need to be advised in advance. As any fisherman knows, weather and fish are not guaranteed! We have added pan fried trout to our menu, as a very worthy second choice option.
We also cater for private functions of between 6 and 20 guests. The menu can be anything from finger food to a three course meal, just give us a call to discuss your requirements. The venue is private and therefore perfect for business functions where sensitive information may be discussed. We are fully licensed, and have a large malt whisky selection (over 50 now!), as well as a variety of local beer and wine. Bookings must be made in advance for private functions or conferences.
If you require deli products, please contact us.
Whisky tastings can be arranged, so contact us to book a date and time.
Through Wild Fly Fishing in the Karoo, we exclusive access to fly fish on over 25km of the Little Fish River, and offers excursions as far as Cradock for targeting trout, indigenous yellow fish as well as a number of other species.
The area has a variety of different options available for targeting trout. There are fantastic picturesque still waters, as well as sections of river, stocked with trout. It should be noted that the water is so rich in nutrients and aquatic life that the trout in the rivers and dams grow incredibly well. The unofficial river trout record was caught in 2013 and weighed in at over 14 pounds!

We spent 3 nights with Alan & Annabelle. The food, accommodation and hospitality was excellent. We managed to share some quality fishing time with Alan which was also a bonus. This was our second stay and will likely become a routine stop for our travels around the Eastern Cape in the future. Thank you for everything
