New York State is a state  in the Northeastern region of the United States. It is the nation's third most populous state. New York is bordered by New Jersey ans Pennsylvania to the south, and by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Long Island, and an international border with Canada.

New York covers 54,556 square miles (141,300 km2) and ranks as the 27th largest state by size. The Great Appalachian Valley dominates eastern New York, while Lake Champlain is the chief northern feature of the valley, which also includes the Hudson River flowing southward to the Atlantic Ocean. The rugged Adirondack Mountains, with vast tracts of wilderness, lie west of the valley.

In contrast with New York City's urban atmosphere, the vast majority of the state is dominated by farms, forests, rivers, mountains, and lakes. New York's Adirondack Park is the largest state park in the United States. It is larger than the Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier and Olympic National Parks combined. New York established the first state park in the United States at Niagara Falls in 1885.Niagara Falls, on the Niagara River as it flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, is a popular attraction.

 

 

 

 

New York City is the most populous city in the USA and the center of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world. New York exerts a significant impact upon global commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. The home of the United Nations Headquarters in New York is an important center for international affairs and is widely deemed the cultural capital of the world.

Tourism is one of New York City's most vital industries, with more than 40 million combined domestic and international tourists visiting each year in the past five years. Major destinations include Manhattan, the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Broadway theater productions; museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art,; greenspaces such as Central Park and Washington Square Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square; luxury shopping along Fifth and Madison Avenues; and events such as the Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, , the St Patrick’s Day parade, seasonal activities such as ice skating in Central Park in the wintertime, the Tribeca Film Festival, and free performances in Central Park at Summerstage. Special experiences outside the key tourist areas of the city include, but are not limited to the Bronx Zoo, Coney Island and the New York Botanical Garden.
