South Africa Bed and Breakfast Old World Charm Double Delight in Swellendam
A national monument and one of the oldest houses in Swellendam, our beautiful Victorian bed & breakfast - right on the Garden Route - radiates an old-world charm and rustic elegance that has made it famous the world over
The Guest House boasts four very spacious and elegant individually decorated rooms in a lush, green garden setting with amazing views of the looming mountain behind. A large natural swimming pool (220 cubic metres) set amongst herbaceous borders, orchard and olive grove, a stream and rose walk with a beautiful pool pavilion and guest lounge for guests to enjoy.
All rooms are air conditioned and furnished with fine handcrafted furniture, antiques and beautiful original paintings, prints and photographs.
THE DOUBLE DELIGHT SUITE is a deluxe, air conditioned suite with en-suite bathroom that opens directly onto our quiet large, private garden where we have a large number of rose bushes, and abundant birdlife.
The queen-size bed is hand-made from indigenous Yellowwood and Kiaat
The ceilings of this suite are of Spanish reed and are tied in the traditional manner.
The mattress is the latest Sealy Posturepedic Plus which, we think, you will find a superb mattress.
The Double Delight is en-suite with a walk-in shower as well as bath
Our internationally famous English style cooked breakfasts or extensive continental are personally prepared to order each morning and served with fresh home baked scones, muffins and breads, complemented by homemade preserves and jams, freshly squeezed fruit juices and plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurt and honey.
Relax under the vine-covered pergola with a glass of wine, or recline in your deckchair on the sunny well-manicured lawn.
All our suites have three different types of coffees, several different types of teas, and fresh milk is always available in the refrigerator.
Our internationally acclaimed shortbread is renewed daily, as is the locally-grown fruit, the port, and the muscadel (muscadel is the sweet wine loved by early settlers).
All these items are there for your enjoyment at no charge.
The contents of the fridge are there to be enjoyed at no extra cost if consumed on the premises.
There is an extensive range of local Aloe Ferox toiletries in the bathrooms, to be enjoyed.
Electric blankets are available at all times. However, we only put these on the beds during the colder months. The air conditioner is set for maximum coolness at 20C.
All rooms receive WiFi
All our rooms now include flat screen televisions with a satellite movie channel.

A wonderful place with an outstanding rose garden (beautiful even in autumn), a beautiful natural pool, very friendly and helpful host. Situated in a peaceful little historical town with museum, nice houses and good restaurants.

I have stayed at this delightful guest house on three separate occasions and will make it my regular stop when traveling along the N2. To my delight, I found that since my previous visit, the owners had bought adjacent land and had transformed it with a huge Eco-pool and had erected a new "breakfast" room and kitchen alongside the pool. This and the superb accommodation gives it my thumbs up for quality and value.
