South Africa Lodge Vacation Rentals in Thatched Wooden Limpopo Lodge on Cliffs End.
The Safari Conservancy “The Place of the Mountain”, is situated in the World Heritage “Waterberg Biosphere” of the Waterberg region. Approximately a three-hour drive north of Johannesburg, this 22 000ha malaria-free reserve boasts five eco-systems. The upper escarpment offers majestic craggy rock formations and wide-open grass plains. This is separated from the lower plateau by 600m high cliffs. The lower escarpment is approximately three degrees warmer and comprises sandveld vegetation and a series of wetlands.
Located under the shadow of the mountain, this thatched wooden lodge, built on stilts and hugging the cliff edge, offers spectacular views of unspoilt ravines and wooded hillsides. A minibar fridge is available in the communal lounge areas (stocked on request). From the open sundecks, guests can indulge in bird and game watching and experience the beauty of the ravine while listening to the rippling sound of water from below in the valley.
Because of the 5 different ecosystems within the reserve, game viewing and bird watching are most rewarding in terms of the variety of species to be seen, identified by knowledgeable and friendly rangers. The upper escarpment is predominantly grassland dominated by the most beautiful crags, while a drive down between the cliffs, where a gurgling stream beckons, takes you to the warmer sandy wetlands of the lower escarpment.
The game drive wildlife experience is impressive with more than 55 mammal species (including the big five, consisting of lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and rhino) 300 plants species and 380 bird species….not to mention the wide variety of insects, reptiles and amphibians all co-existing in five spectacular diverse eco-systems including grasslands, bushveld, mountains and river beds. Encounter the supreme wildlife of Africa with qualified rangers in our open safari game viewing.
Various guided Bush Walk options are available. The Predator Walks are undertaken by our qualified rangers in the Big 5 Entabeni Safari Conservancy, Non-predator walks at the Resort and Botany Walks within the Botanical Gardens. Our trained rangers will show you a variety of animals and birds.
The Bushveld stars are magnificent and truly a must-see. Stargazing can be done in the Astro Boma with a professional speaker for children and adults or the activity can be guided by one of our qualified Rangers. Alternatively a professional Astronomer can be hired in at a nominal fee. A minimum of 20 people are required per session.
Helicopter flights: an experience beyond comparison! Get a bird’s eye view of our 22 000 ha Nature Reserve with either a 5-minute or 12-minute flight or combine an exhilarating helicopter flight with a romantic meal on a secluded mountain top and enjoy the indescribable natural beauty of the Waterberg.

As the first lodge on a 4 lodge tour this was a delight for the eyes. The buildings and facilities were homely but exciting, the view over the lake a classic and the food and service excellent. The very experienced guides (Stephen in our case) made the venue come alive and we saw a wide range of birds and animals. Rooms were clean and well presented and we felt really looked after. Well done!

Fantastic accommodations, private & fun. Beautiful surroundings with panoramic views. Easily accessible from Jo'burg. The wildlife is plentiful and varied. Pit fires at night, the food could be better but not the main reason for coming here.

This was the 1st lodge we stayed on our trip, the rooms were very comfy with all the amenities/food was good)breakfast brilliant)staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, would recommend this lodge for a very pleasant stay, we saw loads of animals on our game drives, no complaints whatsoever.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The game viewing under our superb guide Stephen made it particularly memorable seeing many different species of both animals and birds with the main exception of a leopard. The Lodge accommodation was very acceptable and spacious and the food of a high standard throughout. We particularly enjoyed the picnics and refreshment stops we made in the bush and too the visit to the Wildlife Centre . Stephen took us very close to the animals such that we were able to take close up shots of cheetah, lions , elephants , rhino and many others. A great week that will live us for years to come.
