Bathed in uniquely Mediterranean light, Montpellier, the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, owes much of its charm to its beautiful historical district and superb gardens juxtaposed with modern buildings. The historical centre has been pedestrianised and is a very pleasant place to linger. Place-de-la-Comedie, a beautiful open square with typical French bistros, is a place impossible to miss.
