South Africa Luxury Safari Lodge Suite DeLuxe in Waterberg Biospohere Reserve.
The Safari Lodge is nestled within Welgevonden Game Reserve, a malaria-free wilderness of some 40,000-hectares. Welgevonden ranks among Southern Africa’s largest and most pristine private game reserves.
Welgevonden forms part of the greater, UNESCO-declared Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. This biosphere is characterised by high-plateau geology, magnificent cloudscapes, crystalline streams and an immense diversity of wild species. (While perfect for indigenous plants and animals, the Waterberg’s soils are largely unsuitable for farming or forestry – hence the region has remained unspoiled across the centuries.)
We are perfectly placed for exploration of the entire Welgevonden Game Reserve. While guests are not permitted to drive their own vehicles within the Reserve, our expertly guided, open-vehicle safaris can take you on any variety of interesting routes.
To maintain its exclusivity, we offer just five suites which are located in a stunning setting overhanging the gorge. This is a luxurious intimate camp with 5 elegant, secluded thatch and stone suites beautifully and individually decorated with natural materials to produce an air of luxurious Colonial comfort – antiques and plush furnishings ensure an intimate, romantic experience with Victorian bathtubs and log fires as highlights.
But it's not all about olden day nostalgia, with indoor and outdoor showers and a private deck (3 with plunge pools) boasting sweeping views of the bushveld adding a contemporary flavour.
Return from the evening game drive and dinner during the chilly winter months and you'll find hot water bottles with padded covers already nestling beneath the sheets!
The main lodge is also gorgeous - built from natural rock with teak decks overhanging the gorge, it's the central meeting place where you can relax and enjoy the feeling of a true colonial safari atmosphere. Rare African art, stylish furnishings, rich woods, leather and woven textures create a rich elegance and feeling of classy luxury.
Sip a cocktail or order a delicious bottle of wine from the Zebra bar, peruse a book of African stories in the library or just chill in a comfy sofa in the Indaba lounge which has a lovely wooden deck overlooks a small and very active waterhole frequented by loads of game – it's a great spot to relax with a pair of binoculars watching the animals coming down to drink as well as providing excellent photographic opportunities.
Delightful safari experiences are assured by an astounding diversity of wild species, including the “Big Five”; by natural densities of wildlife; and by superbly qualified guides.
Our guides are, moreover, mature experts, proven in their dedication to introducing you to our wildlife, ecology, and the African folk-wisdom imbued in our environment.
While most of our safaris are conducted in an open vehicle, walking safaris can be tailored, on request, to your special wildlife or ecological interests. All bush walks would be by prior arrangement and are subject to availability.
Vital to any true safari experience is a certain quality of stillness. Wild animals follow their own sense of time and space, and the greater your personal sense of stillness – or peace, or well-being – the more you will experience. In making your stay comfortable, secure and exclusive, we aim to maximize both your inner peace and the pleasure of your safari.
Elegance and authenticity define our cuisine. Each meal is a graceful culinary event, featuring African-inspired themes, locally sourced ingredients, and a wine list that nods to the best of South Africa’s famed vineyard estates.
Dinner is usually served – with a good helping of colonial charm – in our candlelit dining room. But on nights when the African cosmos shines with particular brilliance, we dine in the outdoor boma (a traditional enclosure) around glowing log-fires.
The joys of a spa with massage are not only for city slickers; inward relaxation is essential to a good safari. Africa’s wild giants do not move at the frenetic pace of television, digitized schedules, or other human gadgetry. Indeed, the “Big Five” spend most of their lives conserving energy – and to appreciate their various behaviors, you will ideally feel every bit as relaxed as they appear to be.
So we hardly need add that we offer our guests a most soothing massage.

We have had the pleasure of visiting many game lodges over many years. This is by far the most artistic lodge I have ever experienced. Because I am also a collector of African Art and textiles, I especially appreciated the beautiful objects and the way in which they were incorporated into the decor. Stunning taste! In addition, the rooms are gorgeous and most comfortable in every way. It was always a pleasure to return to the room after a game drive or meal. Neil and his companion Jennifer do a superb job acting as hosts. Neil was also our ranger and he has a wealth of knowledge to share. The game viewing was excellent and the scenery of the reserve was beautiful. I most highly recommend this very special place. Kudos to you all. The food was also delicious and artistically presented.

Amazing safari experience. Excellent hospitality by hosts Test and Feli and their great staff. Game drives in small groups is a big advantage. Test was also a great guide with extreme knowledge about the animals. If there is something more to see when time is up Test would not hesitate to make the drive longer. Food was super as well. The chalets are big and luxurary. We had a straight view on elephants in our "garden".
