Overview

Malaysia Borneo Sabah 3 Days 2 Night Good to be through Sandakan

Trip, Leisure

Pulau Selingan

Selingan, one of the composition of Turtle Island Park, houses the park’s headquarters, a turtle hatchery, tourist accommodation and basic facilities. Turtles lay their eggs throughout the year, but the best time to head there is between July and October. As turtle landings usually occur after dusk, an overnight stay would be the best plan to see the turtles as they come ashore to lay their eggs, but shining a light on them or using camera flashes should be avoided as either can be stressful on the creatures.

Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

The SOURC giving tourists the opportunity to watch the orang utan up close in their natural habitat. A boardwalk leads you to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where the apes are fed by rangers. The center taking care of about 80 apes, keeping the endangered Sumatran rhinoceros, elephants and other rare animals as well.

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre

The sun bear is the smallest, most arboreal and least known of the bear family , measuring between 120–150 cm long and between 60-78 cm high at the shoulder. Males tend to be larger than females, the former normally weighing between 30 and 70 kg, and the latter between 20 and 40 kg. They unlike other bears, the sun bear’s dark brown or black fur is short and sleek, probably due to the lowland climates it lives in. On their chest sits a pale beige horseshoe shape marking which gives the sun bear its name being said to resemble a setting or rising sun. Similar colored fur can be found around the muzzle and the eyes.

Here, allowing you to better understand why we want to protect them all. Some sun bears have the basic ability to survive. Conservation Centre will restore and release back into the wild bear appropriate orphans. For captive bear can not be released to provide an improved long life environment. To protect the sun bear, Conservation Centre must continue to increase research and habitat protection, increased knowledge and awareness, to further protect habitat, so that they live a peaceful life.

Kinabatangan River

Stretching 560 km from the Crocker Range in the southwest of Sabah to the Sulu Sea in the east, the Kinabatangan River sustains one of the world’s richest ecosystems. The lower basin of the river itself is the largest forest covered floodplain in Malaysia and has the largest concentration of wildlife in the South East Asian region. A trip up the river at dawn or dusk is the best opportunity to see the wildlife, eg. Proboscis monkeys, langurs, orang utan, hornbills, kingfishers, mangrove snakes and etc. You might even sight an Asian elephant or a Sumatran rhinoceros wandering through the trees.
