House 5 Rooms in South Dublin

Ireland House Vacation rentals 5 Bedrooms and Bed &breakfast in Shankill South Dublin

The Story Behind this Georgian villa
The House was built in 1861. That's over 150 years ago, and in the period since then this elegant Georgian villa has seen its fair share of change and a good dollop of excitement too.

But let's go back to the beginning.

In the mid 1800s the railway was bringing radical change, and access, to parts of the world as far apart as Australia, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent. And little 'ol Ireland, as part of Queen Victoria's vast colonial empire, was very much a part of this phenomenon, with rail lines being built to link towns and cities throughout the country.

When the time came for the railway to be built along the coast in Dublin Bay, wealthy gentry saw their opportunity to build summer homes with convenient access to Dublin city, right here in Shankill. And our House is one of those villas.

The house became the summer home of a wealthy Irish family. It has since been owned and lived in by 5 families, and briefly, it was even a hideout for the Irish rebel Dan Breen. But since 1987, it has been owned, and very much loved, by a Dublin couple who in 2007 decided to share their home by opening it up for weddings, events, parties and private rental. They've also kept its extensive grounds completely organic since the beginning, and the 6 acres surround the house are home to bees (we've our own honey), lots of squirrels and even a pair of woodpeckers!

Today the House is a thriving venue for weddings and events of all sizes. People love its secluded location and its ability to adapt to any event held here, but it is an especially beautiful place to get married. Aran O'Reilly and Gillian Fallon, themselves a couple, work closely with all couples who get married here to ensure yours is a wedding day to remember forever.

Our House offers a uniquely modern space with period charm and character. There are 5 large double bedrooms, each themed on the romantic capitals of the world, with handsome modern furnishings. Original fireplaces, elegant furnishings, roll-top baths and period furniture grace the house. Uniquely, also boasts a bar and nightclub so is a wonderful venue in which to host a party or function. Catering can also be arranged if you like.
