Overview

Colonial style Boutique Hotel in La Antigua, Junior Suite

Guatemala vacation rentals Junior Suite in Boutique Hotel in Antigua

Following a three-year restoration, our property incorporates the remains of an earlier structure significantly altered in the nineteenth century. The recent restoration preserves the form of a grand, traditional colonial home with its brick, stone and stucco construction; two courtyards; antique tile roofs; and three water features (including a dramatic wall fountain). Besides the furnished patio where one can enjoy a leisurely breakfast while gazing over the garden, guests will appreciate the elegant and lofty sitting and dining room, the perfect space in which to sip a glass of wine, sit before a roaring fire, or catch up on emails and correspondence.

Entering through the gates of the Hotel visitors enjoy a sweeping view of the first courtyard with its two fountains and richly varied plantings: Italian cypresses, ficus trees, and the colorful blossoms of native plants. The hotel office and reception are conveniently located off the entry vestibule, where newly arriving guests will be greeted with a welcome beverage, and hotel residents may seek advice on touring the city, securing reservations at Antigua's finest restaurants, or making arrangements for a private excursion.

Breakfast is a special occasion here, guests enjoying it while seated around the courtyard or in the dining room. For those fond of coffee or tea upon awakening, and before sitting down to breakfast, complimentary self-serve beverages are available in the courtyard each morning.

Residencia Capuchinas: This high-ceilinged King Junior Suite is colored in shades of cream and pale gray with striking, rich blue accents. A stone-faced fireplace dominates the comfortable sitting area with its down-filled sofa, wood-carved coffee table and contemporary upholstered chair, all lit by an antique crystal chandelier. A custom-designed, king-size, four-poster bed occupies the opposite end of the room. The bathroom is divided into two sections: a generous granite-topped vanity area features numerous drawers for storage, with a closet close at hand; and a light-filled bath chamber lined in pale travertine, offers a luxurious sunken tub/shower area.

Residencia El Carmen: Upon entering this warm and lofty King Junior Suite, the eye is drawn to the distinctive, contemporary, king-size bed and its festive hand-woven fabrics, which capture the best of Guatemalan traditional design. Orange, rust, brown and blue predominate in this room, and its wood-beamed ceiling echoes the handsome design and coloring of the French doors and wood-shuttered windows, which stretch nearly to the floor. The corner fireplace with its comfortable chaise-longue marks the spot for late-night relaxation before bed or a post-breakfast mapping out of the day's tour of Antigua. The sky lit bathroom is divided into two spaces: the first, a granite-topped, drawer-filled vanity area contains a full size closet; the second, a travertine-walled chamber with toilet and large walk-in shower. Wood pilasters and wood cross bar, recycled from the heyday of the previous residence, lend contrasting texture.

Residencia Candelaria: As you enter this delightful King Deluxe room, a smile on your face is to be expected. From the gold-accented king-size, four-poster wrought iron bed to the crystal chandelier, the graceful curves of the corner fireplace, and the antique Persian carpets atop the floor, something rather unusual even for Antigua is to be found here. The two-chambered bathroom continues the surprises with its golden travertine vanity and shower and toilet rooms, accented with Moorish sensibilities. The bath area also has a generous double closet and sky lit shower featuring wood-carved pilasters, which once supported the roof of an earlier residence on this site.

Residencia La Merced: In this King Junior Suite, a large and comfortable sitting area colored in shades of terra cotta, pale green and cream, surrounds the fireplace. A sofa, long enough to stretch out on, has been designed not to block the view of the fireplace from your metal canopied, king-size bed at the far end. The locally-crafted mirror reflects the light both of the chandelier at night and, during the day, the glass tiles set into the ceiling. For those who practice day dreaming (even into the evening), the large window seat facing the courtyard will surely add to the delights of this guest room. The bathroom features two windowed chambers, a granite topped vanity with a hand-painted sink, wood columns, stone accents, and a large walk-in shower and toilet room with chocolate travertine and hand-painted tile.

Residencia Catalina: Distinguishing this Junior Suite are two hand-carved wooden double beds, ingeniously designed to resemble quilted fabric, and a handsome wood paneled window seat. With a comfortable sitting area in front of the fireplace, a handmade wrought iron chandelier and terra cotta floor and beamed ceiling, the accommodation is a welcome refuge following a day of touring. The large vanity area has highlights in stone and hand-carved wood pilasters, and wood-shuttered windows are found in both chambers of the bathroom. Hand-painted tiles line the walls and floor of the large, walk-in shower, distinguished by its decorative wood column.
